The Curse of Crow Hollow by Billy Coffey

★★★★★
Stories are told of a witch who lives in the woods outside of town. But where does truth end and legend begin?

A group of teenagers finds strange prints seared into the ground around their campsite. They follow the tracks, thinking it will lead to fun.

But it doesn't. They eventually arrive at the edge of Alvaretta Graves's property – house of the legendary Riverwood Witch. When an argument that arises turns violent, Alvaretta places a curse on them. The sickness comes the next day, gripping residents one by one. Fear overtakes the town, and panic soon follows.

The posse that makes its way back to the witch's home is armed with guns and Bibles and is searching for an end to the sickness and violence. But they are in no way prepared for what they discover there.

Billy Coffey’s The Curse of Crow Hollow certainly makes for an unforgettable read. Told with same charming and distinctly small-town Southern style I found in When Mockingbirds Sing, this novel takes a thrilling look at the God-fearing, gossip-loving town of Crow Hollow. A group of friends returns from a night in the woods claiming the town witch has cast a curse on the town and fear - of demons, evil, the unknown - very quickly takes control, causing all sorts of outrageous behavior. A dark story with quirky characters discovering the evil that can reside in the heart, The Curse of Crow Hollow intrigued me, surprised me and kept me quickly turning pages until the very last. It’s definitely a unique read. I recommend it for fans of contemporary fiction and look forward to reading more from Billy Coffey in the future.
